Tacrolimus

Ointment

This ointment contains Tacrolimus, a topical calcineurin inhibitor used for the treatment of atopic dermatitis. It works by suppressing immune responses in the skin, thereby reducing inflammation, redness, and itching. Unlike topical steroids, Tacrolimus does not cause skin thinning, making it suitable for long-term use and for application on delicate skin areas. It helps restore the skin barrier and provides effective relief from eczema symptoms.

Mechanism

Tacrolimus
Inhibits calcineurin, thereby blocking T-cell activation and the release of inflammatory cytokines. This reduces skin inflammation, itching, and immune-mediated skin reactions.

Increased sensitivity at application site
Burning or stinging sensation

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to Tacrolimus or any component
Active skin infections (bacterial, viral, or fungal)
Immunocompromised patients (use with caution)

Dosage

Apply a thin layer to the affected area twice daily or as directed by the physician.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Avoid concurrent use with other topical immunosuppressants
Alcohol may cause flushing or irritation at application site
Systemic immunosuppressants: May increase overall immunosuppression

For external use only
Avoid excessive sun exposure; use sun protection
Do not apply on infected or malignant skin lesions
Use the minimum amount required for symptom control
Not recommended below 2 years
